With this once-a-year course, you’ll grow your garden know-how with six months of lessons that build upon each other - teaching you just what you need to know, right when you need to know it.

Coursework starts with planning your garden, then building it (if you haven’t got one) or beefing up your soil (if you have got one). With the stage set, you’ll dive into sowing seeds, then planting corms (that will grow into gorgeous ranunculus and anemones!), and finally planting bulbs - so that your spring is filled with flowers. In between planting lessons, you’ll learn about frost and freeze protection, how to handle pests, disease, and fertilization. Finally, when you garden is starting to come into bloom, you’ll learn how to harvest each flower and arrange them into a beautiful bouquet.
What’s covered in the course:
August - Garden Planning (BONUS LESSON): All the blooms covered in the course, when they’re planted + harvested, how to plant your garden to include the elements you’ll ultimately need for a bouquet
September - Garden Prep + Hardy Annual Seed Sowing: How to set up a new garden (pots, raised beds, amended native soil) or prepare your existing garden for fall planting. Details on how to sow each seed (dozens of hardy annuals, by variety) and when to plant for optimal blooms.
October - Ranunculus + Anemone Deep Dive: Everything you need to know about corms: anatomy, soil preferences, soaking, pre sprouting, spacing, and more
November - Frost + Freeze Prep: How to prepare your fall garden for cold temps (shop now and beat the rush during first frost)
November - Amaryllis + Paperwhites (BONUS): how to plant bulbs for indoor blooms through winter
December - Tulips, Daffodils, Hyacinth, and Muscari: how to plant bulbs for cut flower production or landscape impact, how to troubleshoot common bulb diseases, how to time plantings for continual bloom
January - Garden Optimization: how to treat each pest and disease in a hierarchical fashion that will not harm your garden ecosystem or the pollinators that visit it. How to fertilize your garden based on it’s current growth stage.
February - Harvesting + Bouquets: harvest instructions by variety for maximum vase life, plus details on how to arrange your blooms into bouquets.

AGA is a six-month program designed to guide novice and intermediate gardeners through designing, planning, planting, and tending a STUNNING fall cutting garden - giving you the confidence through gradual release to embark on a life-long gardening journey equipped with tools, skills, and strategies applicable across all seasons and plant varieties.

Most AGA students are gardeners or want to be gardeners in Houston, TX or other parts of the hot humid south. However, in 2024 we also had participants in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Australia!

AGA Coursework includes all instruction, presentations, and videos.
Gardeners will also be supported via monthly LIVE implementation calls, and weekly office hours!

This program is for anyone, at any level of experience who wants to perfect the planting and tending of the following flowers: ranunculus, anemones, tulips, daffodils, hyacinth, muscari, and seed-started hardy annuals like snapdragons, foxglove, delphinium, corn cockle, feverfew, cantebury bells, larkspur, orlaya, and poppies. Most of our students are beginner or novice gardeners, but we’ve had early-stage flower farmers and experienced gardeners who want to make the switch to organic bee-friendly gardening.

I’m Alex of Bungalow Blooms
In 2018 we bought a tiny little bungalow with a big front yard - when my sister came to live with us, she helped me build two raised beds.
We filled them with cheap soil, rigged up a hardware store irrigation system, and planted seeds (at exactly the wrong time). That first garden gave me the world's teeniest zinnias, and ignited my drive to figure out gardening in Houston.
Since 2018, I’ve learned a lot of lessons the “hard way” - covering all my flowers with bed sheets during the first frostmas I experienced meant pretty much everything in my garden turned to mush. Planting tulip bulbs in August, meant I never had a single tulip bloom. But every “mistake” turned into an experience that made more more successful the next year.
Until 2024, I was also an elementary school teacher, with a degree in Early Childhood Education and Psychology. I know that the best teachers are the ones who leave you feeling you CAN (even without their help). Having a decade of experience taking big ideas and breaking them apart for little brains transfers perfectly to teaching beginner and frustrated gardeners to succeed.
What you don’t need is a ton of information all at once, left to fend for yourself and sort through what to do next.
What you do need are bite-sized, easily implementable lessons that you can watch, master, and use in the garden - building success on top of success until you find yourself not needing me at all.
THAT is Autumn Grow Along - it’s the fast track to garden confidence. You’ll get a gorgeous spring garden, but most importantly, you’ll get the tools and knowledge that will make you a confident gardener for your entire journey.

You’re not a terrible gardener - you just have the wrong information! The reality is, not much information is available specific to Houston and the Gulf South, and this course sets out to remedy both - lack of information and any previous “fails”.
And let’s be honest, we all mess up sometimes! In fact, this entire course is a culmination of my years of trial and error in my own Houston cut flower garden.
In AGA, you’ll learn from the years of my own mistakes, saving you from any missteps along the way. And if (when) they do happen, you’ll learn how to troubleshoot as you go, and grow from your mistakes too! We’re all in this together.
